Business Development Manager, Western Region - Part Time

Graduate School USA Business Relations and Learning Solutions Department is seeking a part-time Business Development Manager to market and sell training and professional services to the federal marketplace in the Western region.  In addition to sales, the Business Development Manager will build relationships with decision-makers and senior level executives to learn more about the customer and position Graduate School USA to develop training solutions to meet their specific needs.

Primary Duties:

New Business Development

  • Prospect for potential new clients and turn clients into new business to increase revenue.
  • Contact prospective customers (via phone, email, in-person, virtual platforms, etc.) within the federal market or geographic area to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities.
  • Grow, maintain, and leverage a network of clients for training services.
  • Identify potential clients and the decision makers within the client organization.
  • Research and build relationships with new clients.
  • Prepare and submit quotes to clients in response to their training requests.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop proposals that speak to clients’ needs, concerns, and objectives.

Client Retention

  • Maintain and enhance relationships with existing customers.
  • Share new Graduate School USA products and services with client network.
  • Develop 30, 60, 90-day workplans.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of independence and comfortable with working in a virtual environment.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to meet special or unique customer needs.
  • Arrange and participate in internal and external client briefings. 

Business Development Planning

  • Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.
  • Present to and consult with mid- and senior-level management on business trends, with a view to developing and promoting new services, products, and distribution channels.
  • Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in sales and revenue.
  • Use knowledge of the federal government and business competitors to identify and develop the School’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.

Management and Research

  • Submit monthly progress reports.
  • Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed in the School’s CRM (Salesforce).
  • Forecast federal sales targets within the geographic area and/or region.
  • Work with marketing staff to develop targeted marketing materials.
  • Meet or exceed target revenue goals.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Efficient using various common software applications including Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel. Knowledge and experience with SalesForce are preferred.
  • Must possess a detailed understanding of the federal marketplace, including potential customers, partners, and competitors.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of independence and comfortable with working in a virtual environment.
  • Knowledge of federal training processes/procedures and government procurement processes/practices/vehicles including the GSA schedule is highly desirable.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or substantial federal government/leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in sales and marketing, particularly interfacing with federal government agencies.  Appropriate mid or senior level federal leadership experience may be substituted.
  • Experience with virtual platforms, e.g., Zoom, MS Team.
  • Experience working independently and in a team environment.
